West Indies Bowler Shillingford banned by ICC


The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday confirmed that an independent test had found the bowling action of the West Indies' off-spinner Shane Shillingford to be illegal and, as such, the player has been suspended from bowling in international cricket.The off-spinner will have to apply for re-assessment after modifying his bowling action, to get back to bowling in international matches. According to an ICC media release, a comprehensive analysis revealed that his mean elbow extension was 17 degrees which is above the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the relevant regulations.Shillingford can now apply for re-assessment of his action after he has modified his bowling action in accordance with clause 2.4 of the regulations for the review of bowlers reported with suspect illegal bowling actions.
