MATCH PREVIEW:-
Total played: 22. India wins: 20; Bangladesh wins: 2
In the sub-continent: 20. India wins: 19; Bangladesh wins: 1
In the World Cups: 1. India wins: 0; Bangladesh wins: 1
* Bangladesh caused one of the biggest upsets of the 2007 World Cup by defeating India and being instrumental in their early elimination. This is the only time they have faced each other in a World Cup match. Tamim Iqbal was the batting hero while Mashrafe Mortaza was the man-of-the-match for his bowling
* Since then, Bangladesh have lost seven matches on the trot to India, all of them in the sub-continent, the closest margin being by five wickets.
* Bangladesh's recent form record (WWWLW) and eight wins out of their last 10 matches yielding results, including their 4-0 win against New Zealand at home, has been one of their best runs making them feel very confident, playing at home.
* India's recent form record (LLWWL) is not as inspiring in ODIs for the team ranked the number one Test nation. However, with the side decimated by injuries, they were praised for their spirited performance in South Africa . They, too, will be buoyed by their 5-0 win against New Zealand at home, although they will be worried about the Houdini acts their lower middle order or lesser acclaimed bowling attack have had to perform to compensate for the top order batting failures and/or injuries.
* Bangladesh's 18-18 win-loss record at the Shere Bangla National Stadium is much better than their overall win-loss record of 64-178. Clearly, the home crowd helps them perform better than at most other places. India have won seven out of the 10 matches they have played at this ground.
* Aged 21, opener Tamim Iqbal will be the one Bangladesh player everyone will be watching. He has come a long way from his precocious half century against India in the 2007 World Cup, and will look to give his team a strong, dynamic start.
* India have a long list of big hitters but all eyes will inevitably be on Sachin Tendulkar who has played very few ODIs since his 200 against South Africa a year ago. He is three centuries away from his 100th international centuries. Will he be able to make it count?
